The chairman of the PSD parliamentary group referred to reports this Wednesday in parliamentary committees of the requests of the Social Democrats to hear the Minister of the Interior José Luis Carneiro on the “risks of border control” and the former provider of the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisbon (SCML), Edmundo Martinho.
The hearings of the Minister of Labor Ana Mendes Godinho on the situation at Santa Casa Global will move forward only because the PSD has submitted a potestative (binding) request.
“The absolute majority continues to be a steamroller and continues to fail the necessary hearings so that the government and other organizations can bring clarity to the Portuguese,” criticized Miranda Sarmento.
When asked if the SDP recognizes the possibility of filing a potential request to compel an MAI hearing, Miranda Sarmento responded that the panel will consider it because there are restrictions on these mandatory hearings.
“Both immigration and Santa Casa are very serious issues that affect the lives of all Portuguese. The government has very little desire to educate the Portuguese,” he criticized.
The PSD’s requests for a hearing in the Santa Casa case are based on a report from the newspaper Público, according to which Minister Ana Mendes Godinho was informed of the amounts needed to internationalize the social games Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisbon (SCML), information contradicts transmitted by the Ministry of Labor.
Regarding the internal administration, the PSD wants clarification regarding news reports about “alarming situations that jeopardize border control and national security”, just over a month after the closure of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).
