Belgian Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike), one of the biggest stars in world cycling, will make his Volta a Algarve debut in 2024, it was announced this Thursday.
At a meeting with journalists in Amsterdam, where the team was presented this Thursday, 29-year-old Van Aert revealed that he will race in the Algarve from February 14 to 18, on the “road” to the Tour. Italy, which will also take part for the first time.
“My main goal now and in the coming months will be the classics. […] I’ll try to compete again for the Tour of Flanders and/or Paris-Roubaix, that’s the first real goal. We’ll take a slightly different approach [à temporada]. I’ll go to the Giro and prepare later [Jogos] The Olympics are as good as they come, so I won’t be doing the Tour. I will end the season with the Vuelta and the World Championships in September,” he listed in a statement published by the specialist website CyclingNews.
The biggest international figure, the WVA, will therefore visit national soil twice next year as the opening three stages of the Tour of Spain, scheduled for August 17 to September 8, will take place in Portugal, with the Vuelta starting in Lisbon.
The Belgian has 44 wins and nine triumphs in the Tour de France, a race in which he won the regularity classification with a record number of points and was elected “superfighter” for 2022, adding to his achievements in Milan-San Remo (2020 ), Amstel Gold Race (2021) or Strade Bianche (2020).
