In his Christmas message on Friday, the PSD president said the current political crisis could be seen as an “opportunity” for Portuguese people to change their government and their lives, promising “new ambitions.”
In a message that will be broadcast on PSD at 19:30 on RTP1 and distributed on the party’s social networks, Luis Montenegro emphasizes that Christmas is a time when families come together to evaluate “their lives, their projects, their problems and also life, projects and problems of the country.”
“This Christmas we have a situation of uncertainty and lack of clarity in Portugal. The prime minister resigned and the government was dismissed. So we have a political crisis in addition to the major economic and social problems and restrictions that we have already experienced.” , He says .
However, the SDP chairman believes that “this political crisis is also an opportunity.”
“An opportunity to change government, an opportunity to change our lives, an opportunity to solve problems that we actually face every day,” he said.
Montenegro said that the PSD and itself are not satisfied with a country “where young people emigrate in search of opportunities”, where “the middle class lives under pressure, suffocating from a very high tax burden” or where “pensioners are losing purchasing power every year and are becoming increasingly isolated.”
“This Christmas also gives us the opportunity to look at Portugal and imagine a future, hope and new ambitions,” he said.
The leader of the Social Democrats believes that it is possible to achieve greater growth for the country from an economic point of view, “better manage the basic systems of health care, education, housing,” without leaving aside ethical issues.
“It is possible to create a fairer and more transparent society in which ethical issues are at the forefront of the behavior of political and government officials,” he said.
Montenegro also recalls that in 2024 the 50th anniversary will be celebrated on April 25, considering that this will also be an opportunity to “awaken freedom and principles” of Portuguese democracy.
“It is within the framework of hope, ambition and a sense of responsibility that this Friday I wish you a happy holiday, a Christmas that is also an opportunity for you as a family to reflect on our long journey. we must start next year,” he urged, hoping that “a more prosperous and fair country can be built.”
