Fernando Gomes congratulated Manchester City’s trio of world champions

Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunez received praise from the President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) this Friday for becoming club world champions with Manchester City.

“I congratulate them on their brilliant victory this evening against Fluminense, which saw them become club world champions. Careers and titles that speak for themselves highlight the prestige and honor this achievement brings to football and the nation’s sport.” This was stated by Fernando Gomez, as quoted by the FPF website.

With a 4-0 win over Brazilian side Fluminense, City claimed their first Club World Cup scepter in the match played at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The director highlighted the “work capacity, dedication and talent” that the three Portuguese internationals have demonstrated throughout their careers, deeming it “a source of great pride for the entire Portuguese people.”

“Congratulations, world champions!” he concluded, commenting on the achievement of Pep Guardiola’s team, in which Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias, as usual, were in the starting line-up, with Matheus Nunez coming on as a substitute.

The competition between the competition’s newcomers featured goals from Julián Alvarez in the first minute and in the 88th minute, Nino’s own goal in the 27th minute and Phil Foden in the 72nd minute.

Manchester City are the fourth British team to win the Club World Cup after Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, succeeding Spanish club Real Madrid.
