The GNR recorded one death and 17 serious injuries in 684 accidents from Friday to Sunday.

According to data published this Monday by the PSP and GNR, there have been 1,162 traffic accidents on Portuguese roads in the last three days, resulting in one death and 358 injuries, of which 24 were serious.

From Friday to Sunday, the GNR recorded 684 accidents, resulting in one death and 211 injuries, 17 of which were serious.

During the same period, the PSP recorded 478 accidents on the roads under its jurisdiction, resulting in 147 injuries, including seven serious ones.

The fatal victim mentioned by the GNR is a woman who was hit by a car on Sunday in the town of Turquel in the municipality of Alcobaça.

The published data is part of inspection and patrol operations organized by the PSP and GNR for the Christmas and New Year holidays and is still preliminary.

According to the GNR and PSP, 217 drunk drivers (blood alcohol level is considered a crime) and 96 without a legal driver’s license were arrested in the last three days.

Among approximately 30 thousand verified drivers and more than 17 thousand vehicles monitored by radar, members of the GNR and PSP identified more than six thousand violations, namely speeding (2365), lack of periodic technical inspection (493), and drunk driving. alcohol (310), lack of insurance (158) and cell phone misuse (137).

Christmas and New Year 2023/2024 GNR and PSP started on December 15th and will end on January 2nd.
