The head of Belarus said that the supply of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to the country has been completed

The President of Belarus said this Monday that Russia has completed sending tactical nuclear weapons to his country, an initiative that is causing concern in Poland and the region.

During a meeting in St. Petersburg of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the economic bloc led by Moscow, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko indicated that the transport of these weapons was completed in October, but did not provide details about their quantity or location. where they are deposited.

Tactical nuclear weapons intended for use on the battlefield have a limited range compared to long-range missiles carrying nuclear warheads. Russia said it would retain control over these weapons sent to its neighbor and allied country.

Lukashenko justified the acquisition of Russian nuclear weapons by deterring aggression from Poland, a NATO country. Poland has provided military and political support to neighboring Ukraine following Russia’s military invasion and has joined international sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Russian troops stationed in Belarus invaded Ukraine from the north in the early days of the war, but there are no reports of Belarusian military forces participating in the offensive.

The Russian military offensive into Ukraine, launched on February 24 last year, has plunged Europe into its most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

Ukraine’s Western allies have supplied Kyiv with weapons and approved successive packages of sanctions against Russian interests in an attempt to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort.
