President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa this Friday declined to comment on the controversy involving Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho over the cost of the work at the former Mlitar de Belen hospital, referring only to the fact that all civil servants must fill out a new questionnaire.
When asked by journalists if Gomes Cravinho would pass the questionnaire, Marcelo only replied that the government’s 36 questions were legal and that they should apply “to all those who perform functions.”
“It is a fictitious opinion that the survey will solve all the problems and doubts that arise from now on,” he stressed.
“Over time, questions about the past may arise in public opinion and in the media. They are still relevant in the present,” said Marcelo, to justify the need to apply the questionnaire to everyone.
When asked about specific cases, such as those of João Gomes Cravinho and those of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina, the President of the Republic chose not to take any consideration into account. “I don’t follow the facts very closely,” he explained.
