The PCP today found Prime Minister António Costa’s Christmas message “out of touch with people’s lives”, highlighting the lack of mention of issues such as the cost of living, health care, education and housing.
“The Prime Minister is making a statement that is out of touch with people’s lives. He talks about the correct accounts, but does not talk about the wrong accounts of people’s lives, salaries and pensions that are not enough to cover the costs of a standard of living that has recently increased significantly,” Communist leader Jaime Toga began today to reporters in Porto.
Speaking at the communist workers’ center on Avenida da Boavista, a member of the Political Commission of the PCP Central Committee also emphasized that António Costa speaks “about the qualifications of the Portuguese people, but does not talk, for example, about the problems of public schools, the fact that there are still tens of thousands of students who have which there are no teachers in all subjects.”
“This is not about the NHS. [SNS]the problems that exist in the National Health Service, the lack of appreciation of specialists,” he said, also emphasizing the absence of “one of the main problems of the country – the housing problem.”
According to the PKP leader, “Today, thousands of families are spending Christmas in agony, not knowing what tomorrow will be like and how they will be able to cope with the rising cost of housing, be it by increasing the provision of home loans or by increasing home loans. either by raising rents.”
Jaime Toga emphasized “the importance of not having any illusions, since it is not through the CoP, as has been demonstrated in recent years, that the answers to the problems of workers and the population can be found.”
“Yes, this will happen due to the strengthening of the CDU. [Coligação Democrática Unitária, entre o PCP e o Partido Ecologista ‘Os Verdes’]By increasing the number of votes and deputies of the CDU, it will be possible to prepare the ground for the necessary answers,” defended the communist leader.
