PSD argues that Portugal’s trust “can only be regained through an alternative”

The vice-president of the PSD, Paulo Rangel, said this Monday that the confidence and hope of the Portuguese in the future and in the institutions “can only be restored through an alternative” and the removal of “the socialists from power”.

“We can have hope and confidence if changes happen on March 10th. [de 2024]. The trust that the Portuguese can restore in institutions is obviously a direct consequence of the possibility of changing socialist rule. These eight years have brought us to a dead end,” said Paulo Rangel at the PSD headquarters in Porto.

And he added: “I think trust and hope can only be restored if we remove the socialists from power.”

In response to the Prime Minister’s ninth and final Christmas message, Paulo Rangel said that, like António Costa, the PSD also trusted the Portuguese, but Portuguese confidence in the future “can only be restored with an alternative.”

“With an absolute majority, within a year, they have destroyed trust in the government and institutions,” emphasized Paulo Rangel, criticizing the assessment of the government’s performance made by the prime minister about a month and a half after resigning as head. government due to a judicial investigation and due to the fact that early legislative elections are scheduled for March 10.

“How can we praise the progress made in qualifications when we see the situation in which the education system is, a situation in which our students are without teachers, in which teachers are without any incentives, a situation, therefore, about a dead end, in where education has gone,” he said.

Along with education, the PSD vice-president also criticized the correct reports, considering that “they were drawn up on the basis of destruction, abandonment and the systematic withdrawal of public services.”

The Prime Minister’s Christmas message was missing “one word” for health workers, as well as for the homeless and those facing a housing crisis, Paulo Rangel said.

“We know that poverty and the risk of poverty have especially increased in the last year and a half, when the socialist government had an absolute majority and was led by António Costa,” he said.

While defending that the party does not intend to “totally criticize” António Costa’s socialist policies, PSD vice-president said, however, that the prime minister “did not hesitate to launch some propaganda.”
