The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, today mourned the death of “outstanding communist deputy” Odete Santos, 82, and expressed condolences to her family and the PCP.
“I regret the death of Odete Santos, who was an outstanding member of the Assembly of the Republic in several legislative bodies. I express my condolences to her family and the PCP parliamentary group,” the state’s second institutional figure said in an official report on ‘Network X’ (formerly Twitter).
Former MP and communist leader Odete Santos has died at the age of 82, the secretariat of the PKP Central Committee announced this Wednesday.
Maria Odete Santos was born on April 26, 1941 in the parish of Pega, municipality of Guarda. She was a lawyer, joined the PCP in 1974 and was a member of the Assembly of the Republic from 1980 to 2007, and also held various positions at the party and municipal level, in Setúbal.
