The incentive is awarded based on the number of years of the regular cycle of study (most often a bachelor’s degree lasts three years and a master’s degree lasts two years) and up to 35 years of age. A five-year integrated master’s degree will bring 5894 euros.
Decree-Law No. 134/2023, published this Thursday and coming into force this Friday, awards this prize to those who complete the course in 2023 and subsequent years, as well as to graduates before 2023, if the number of years of regular study duration of study cycle has not yet passed since receiving an academic degree.
In this case, the prize is awarded “for the remaining number of years.” This measure also applies to degrees obtained abroad and recognized in Portugal.
To be eligible for a prize, you must earn IRS Category A or B income, reside in the country, and be “in good standing with your taxes and contributions.”
The prize is not paid by the IRS or Social Security and is claimed electronically from the IRS.
The Finance Ordinance will lay down the rules.
