Carlos César accepted this Friday the invitation of Pedro Nuno Santos, general secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), to run again for the presidency of the party.
“The Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Pedro Nuno Santos, invited Carlos Cesar to become president of the Socialist Party, and this invitation was accepted,” a Socialist source told Lusa, adding that the candidacy of the former socialist parliamentary leader “will be at the same time, as everything indicates, mutual consent.”
The PS Congress will take place from 5 to 7 January in Lisbon.
Carlos César was born in the Azores and was President of the Regional Government of the Azores from 1996 to 2012 and then a member of the Assembly of the Republic from 2015 to 2019. He is also a member of the State Council.
He was elected president of the Socialist Party in November 2014 at the invitation of António Costa.
