This Saturday, the general secretary of the PKP found it “unsurprising” to say that Pedro Nuno Santos had been informed of the Alexandra Reis compensation, but stressed that his party was concerned about the way TAP was run.
The day after Pedro Nuno Santos announced that he had been informed and had given “political consent” to the departure of Alexandra Reis from the TAR administration with a compensation of 500,000, Paulo Raimundo, general secretary of the PKP, felt that this announcement “should not wince”.
“There is nothing surprising in this statement of the former minister, because in connection with the imminent [nos últimos dias]it was a matter of time before it became clear,” Paulo Raimundo emphasized in statements to journalists at the end of the IX Assembly of the Intellectual Sector of the Regional Organization of Lisbon, which took place this Saturday at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Sciences of the University of Nova de Lisbon.
Despite this conclusion, the general secretary of the PKP stated that the issue of Pedro Nuno Santos was “not of concern” to his party.
“What worries us is that we are facing the management of a public company, which is TAP, which is, in fact, managed towards its privatization. Now it needs to be managed to respond to public need, rather than having principles applied in the private sector, he said.
For Paulo Raimundo, precisely because of the management criteria applied in the private sector, “the former secretary of state [do Tesouro, Alexandra Reis] received the said 500,000 euros in compensation.”
Asked if he was awaiting further explanations from former Finance Minister Joao Leao regarding this compensation, the communist general secretary reiterated that there are “two fundamental problems” for the PKP, starting with the question of “political options”.
“There, Joao Leao, Pedro Nuno Santos, António Costa – whoever you want to join on that range – all in the same direction. This is the political option that we oppose,” he said.
The second fundamental problem for Paulo Raimundo is “the goal the TAR wants”.
“If the goal you want for TAP is its privatization, we don’t think so. Therefore, it is necessary that the company’s management criteria be management criteria that do not meet the criteria of private management,” he repeated.
When asked if he did not think that this case of Pedro Nuno Santos showed “negligence” on the part of the government in relation to public money, Paulo Raimundo replied: our pockets are in the bank.”
“Until today, we have not considered anything. There is no greater “slob” than this,” he stressed.
Regarding the commission of inquiry into the governance of TAP proposed by Blok de Esquerda, the general secretary of the PKP reiterated that “this will not happen because of the vote” of his party.
“The only difference we are considering now is which vote is final, whether it is an up vote or abstention, due to an equally pressing issue, which is: is it a tree from a larger forest, and is it necessary. that these commissions of inquiry also do not lose sight of the forest,” he stressed.
Former infrastructure and housing minister Pedro Nuno Santos confirmed on Friday that he had given “political consent” to Alexandra Reis’ departure from TAP, adding that he had been informed of the “final amount of the agreement” between the parties.
In a public clarification, Pedro Nuno Santos explained that after leaving the government on December 28, he restored the timeline of the scandalous departure of the former finance minister Alexandra Reis from the Portuguese airline, which led to her resignation, admitting that he knew about the compensation paid in the amount of 500 thousand euros .
