The Trade Union of Registrars and Notaries (STRN) today accused the Government of using “propaganda” in its announced measures and lamented that necessary reforms had not been implemented in the sector.
NTRN said in a statement that it fears that 2024 will be a “repetition of the mistakes of 2023,” stressing that there is “an obvious degradation of registries and notaries that is so harmful to citizens and companies.”
“The government’s bets on this sector are nothing more than mere propaganda. NTRN regrets that the Minister for Justice and the Secretary of State for Justice have failed to implement the important reforms that this sector and its citizens so desperately need,” read the note, perhaps.
As an example, STRN states that delays in service delivery “continue” due to “lack of support” and “computer limitations”, despite the government “ensuring that technical assistants from the defunct SEF (Foreign and Border Services) will be sufficient to ensure the new powers of the Institute of Registers and Notaries (IRN).
One of the new responsibilities of the IRN is the renewal of residence permits.
Regarding the union structure, “this lie, in addition to many others, is now completely contrary to the reality that people are suffering from. It appears that the number of employees transferred from the defunct SEF to the IRN is not sufficient to meet the demands of the union structure. there is a huge demand for renewal of residence permits,” they note.
NTRN says that to solve this problem, “many registrars” have been allocated to this type of service, noting that this type of specialist is “equally insufficient.”
“There are 1,621 people left to carry out their duties in various registration services, and there are also a shortage of 242 registration officers, which further compounds the already long waiting times for various requests, actions, processes and procedures in the field of civil, property registers, transport funds, courts, commercial and legal entities,” he points out.
