The Bloc accompanies the President of the Republic in calling for votes to turn the page on the elections

This Monday, the Bloc de Esquerda followed the New Year’s message of the President of the Republic, especially his call to vote and take part in the next legislative elections, in which the party expects “a great turnaround in Portuguese politics”.

“We follow the message of the President of the Republic, the call for voting, the call for responsibility and, above all, the need for a serious change in Portuguese politics. Let’s hope that March 10 will be just such a milestone,” said BE Director Luis Fazenda. at a conference press conference in response to the New Year’s message from the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The President of the Republic believes that 2024 will be even more decisive than 2023 and called on the Portuguese to take part in the electoral processes, stressing that the country will be what the voters want.

According to Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, “2023 ended with more and more difficult challenges than those with which it began.”

“But democracy is never afraid to give the people the right to vote, and in this it differs from dictatorship. The Portuguese people in 2024 will be very much what democratic voters want them to be. In Portugal – in March; in Europe – in June, in the greatest strength in the world, in November, and before that, in February, in the Azores. “The year is even more decisive than 2023,” the head of state warned in his traditional New Year’s message. In a situation of political crisis, when the government is in power and early legislative elections are scheduled for March 10.

Regarding Marcelo’s warnings about economic growth “without social justice”, that is, without poverty reduction, Luis Fazenda said that this is an “analysis of Portuguese policies” that BE has been carrying out “for many years.”

“Correct accounts cannot be fetishized, deified to such an extent that they will discourage public investment and hamper the ability to rebuild, organize and operate basic public services in a democracy, such as health, education, various segments of social solidarity policies, such as public housing politics,” said the leader of the bloc.

Luis Fazenda believed that these were “the fundamental pillars of the democratic regime as we know it” which “must not be underestimated, despised or even ignored, as the government has done.”

The BE leader said these would be the central themes of the legislative election campaign as they are “themes of everyday life for the Portuguese”, and also highlighted the “brutal increase in the cost of living that opens the year”. on this day”.
