The President of the PS considered this Monday that the decision to dissolve the Assembly of the Republic has increased the atmosphere of uncertainty and said that he shares the concerns of the President of the Republic in his New Year’s message.
“Unfortunately, at the national level, the decision to dissolve the Assembly of the Republic and call early elections taken by the President of the Republic has increased the atmosphere of uncertainty and undermined confidence in the path to achieving safe economic expectations,” said Carlos Cesar.
The Socialist leader reacted at the PS/Açores headquarters in Ponta Delgada to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s New Year’s message.
According to the socialist, the answer “to the updated PS is to ensure the necessary security, peace and stability.”
Carlos Cesar asked the Portuguese people to “put their trust in, together with Pedro Nuno Santos, as Prime Minister of Portugal, to consolidate the gains achieved, correct the mistakes made and move forward faster and more confidently, be it in health, education, housing and other sectors.” .
César assured that “those who will decide about the government are the Portuguese people” and “The President of the Republic, as well as the leaders and political parties, will only be responsible for respecting the electoral decision of the Portuguese people to actively participate in the elections.” regional elections in the Azores, in national and European legislation.”
“Only a large number of votes in the PS guarantees the return of political stability,” the socialist believes.
César said the party shares the concerns expressed in the New Year’s message of the President of the Republic, which arise due to the “new uncertainty” in the world.
Carlos César recalled the difficulties caused by Covid-19 in recent years, as well as the “rise in prices that has harmed everyone”, but “there are many other problems” that motivate the PS, such as problems that “affect everyday life, such as intolerance, radicalism, the tendency to suppress democratic elected officials in a number of countries.”
Added to this are “calls for the weakening of institutions and regulatory intervention by governments, terrorism or threats arising from expansionist ambitions, as seen in the military sphere in Eastern Europe,” he said.
Carlos Cesar assured that “the PS, under the leadership of Pedro Nuno Santos, wants to participate in overcoming these risks and threats.”
