The CM is present at all events

The year 2024 is rich in events and CM will be at the forefront of information. The Azores elections, the legislative elections in March and the European elections in June are events to which your daily newspaper will give full attention with the quality and rigor to which its readers are accustomed. But 2024 is also the year that marks the 50th anniversary of April 25 and the 500th anniversary of the birth of Camões – topics that deserve special attention from CM.

The European Championship in Germany, where the national team goes with ambitions to win, will be CM the best continuation of the Portuguese press, as well as the Olympic Games in Paris. For Father’s Day, the date dedicated to his 45th birthday. CMwe have reserved the second edition of Redação Aberta, an initiative that was a huge success in 2023 and which this year will take place simultaneously in Lisbon and Porto.

Outside, in addition to the war raging in the heart of Europe, the conflict in the Middle East and the migrant drama, the US elections are another important moment that will have full coverage in your CM. Just like artificial intelligence, a reality that is changing our lives in this old world of uncertainty.

AI from A to Z

“In 2024, KM will have a new section dedicated to artificial intelligence: “AI from A to Z.” There I will reveal AI, showing the opportunities and risks it brings to our lives. With KM it will be more. it’s easy to enter the future,” assures Carlos Fiolais about his new project in the CM magazine “Domingo”.

Leading figure in science communication in Portugal, Carlos Fiolhais, a physics graduate from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in theoretical physics from Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, will spend the year explaining what artificial intelligence (AI) is. its dangers and benefits.

“How AI can influence elections, what a deep fake is, how AI can develop and where it is already being used” are some of the topics in this glossary, which will be collected starting on Sunday the 7th. magazine, it will provide the decoder that will allow us to clarify one of the biggest issues of our time.

Songs that marked the carnation revolution

Zeca Afonso, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Sergio Godinho, Jose Mario Branco are inevitable references to April 25th. His songs have found a place in eternity, they continue to be sung, as during the Carnation Revolution. The same joy, the same charm, the same freedom. And no one better than José Jorge Letria can tell us the history of intervention music, “a topic I know very well,” he emphasizes.

Throughout 2024, the journalist, poet, science fiction writer and playwright will travel through the songs that marked the revolutionary period. “Christ spoke publicly and strongly against the dictatorship in Cascais, and even Almada Negreiros appeared in the hall to attend the sold-out event,” writes José Jorge Letria in his first article, to be published next Sunday. Can’t miss it.

Celebrate Camões

It is not easy to reconstruct Camões’ life; there are contradictions in his path, which ended at the age of 56. Considered the greatest of Portuguese poets, the author of Os Luciadas was born in Lisbon in 1524. He was a soldier who lost an eye in battle and survived a shipwreck. On the 500th anniversary of his birth, Francisco José Viegas and a group of other writers invited by the CM columnist talk about his life, his work, his soul in the magazine Domingo.

“Celebrating Camões’ centenary should be a national task. They discussed, celebrated, furiously and with great participation. Unfortunately, this was not what was prepared – due to provincialism, fear and lack of interest from both institutions, society and academia. I emphasize “fear”. It’s a shame. Therefore, every mention of Camões’ work during this year and its significance for us Portuguese is a kind of slap in the face to the national Packism that loves to glorify lost souls and pilgrimage. in the cemetery, but he is still afraid of geniuses the size of the author of “Os Lusíadas”. Personally, Camões has nothing to do with citizenship, “Portugueseness,” “civic feeling.” It deals with powerful language, fantastic and unique lyricism, stunning epic, and historical and literary tradition. One day they will fear Camões even more and accuse him of being the voice of colonialism and the past – they do not understand anything, as usual,” says Francisco José Viegas.
