Former England international Wayne Rooney has been sacked as manager of Birmingham City, the club currently 20th in the Championship, English football’s second tier, it was announced on Tuesday.
“Despite our best efforts, the results did not live up to the expectations that were clear and defined from the outset. “The management therefore believes that it is best to make changes to the management of the football club,” Birmingham said in a statement. at which the departure of Wayne Rooney and Karl Robinson was announced.
Birmingham officials are grateful for the work and efforts of the former footballer, who took charge of the team’s technical team last October, and say they are already looking for a new coach.
The England and Manchester United icon, who arrived in Birmingham after coaching Derby County and North American side DC United, found the team in sixth place in the Championship and left in 20th.
Rooney has coached Birmingham in 15 matches, recording two wins, four draws and nine defeats, the latest of which came against Leeds (3-0) on Monday.
