IL accuses Pedro Nuno of being the ‘face of transport collapse’ and demands concessions on CP services

This Thursday, the president of the Liberal Initiative accused the PS secretary general of being the “face of the collapse” of transport and defended the concession of services to the Comboios de Portugal (CP) on another day of strike.

“I believe that Pedro Nuno Santos is clearly the face of the collapse of many services, especially in the field of transport, he was the responsible minister in this area,” accused Rui Rocha, speaking to reporters in Agualva parish. -Cacem, in the municipality of Sintra, Lisbon.

The President of IL was at the Qacem railway station this Thursday morning, the second day of the strike by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers, which has already led to the suppression of several trains.

Rui Rocha defended the possibility of returning to Comboios de Portugal users the cost of the pass (around 40 euros) corresponding to the days of the strike, in addition to a “more structural” measure that would involve a concession of services provided by CP. .

“IL advocates changing the operating model of this type of service, with the possibility of concessions, operation of the service in conditions of competition between different operators, or at least competition in preliminary tenders for the subsequent study of this type of service,” he clarified.

The Liberal leader stressed that the party respects the right of these workers to strike, and criticized the state for being a “bad employer” and “failing to provide social peace to these companies.”

Rui Rocha arrived at Qasem station at 7:39 am. At that time, many people were looking at train timetable screens, and most of them had the word “depressed” written in front of them.

Several trains on the line were completely packed, and many people were unable to board them. The President of IL spoke with some citizens, and most told him that they did not know how to get to work or return home.

Addressing the woman, Rocha asked what she thought about paying for the pass and the lack of service these days, to which the CP user replied: “What are we going to do? We have nothing to do.”

“Maybe we will have to, we will have to change,” said Rui Rocha, already on the campaign trail, ensuring that these measures will be included in the electoral program that the party will present in the early legislative elections on March 10.

According to the carrier, a strike by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers led to the stoppage of 82 trains out of 148 planned by CP (55.4%) this Thursday from 00:00 to 07:00.

This Thursday, workers at Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) are experiencing the second and final day of a periodic strike, with minimum services set.
