Former TSF director Domingos Andrade said that he never expected what is happening in the Global Media group’s newsrooms and that we are witnessing “the destruction of the reputation of brands and newsrooms.”
The journalist spoke to the parliamentary committee on culture, communications, youth and sports as part of an inquiry from the Bloco de Esquerda (BE) about the current situation in Global Media (GMG), owner of brands such as TSF, Diário de Notícias. (DN), Jornal de Notícias and others.
In his speech, Domingos Andrade said that he could not “relieve his emotions”, given the current situation of the group’s workers, who are facing the process of dismissal of up to 200 people.
“What happens in newsrooms represents a seriousness that I never thought possible to observe in a democracy,” the journalist lamented.
“We’re not just witnessing the end of brands, we’re witnessing the reputational destruction of brands and newsrooms,” he continued, noting that it’s happening by “breaking the back of these newsrooms because of hunger.”
Moreover, “I can’t help but be disturbed by the administration’s pure and simple intrusion into the opinion and programming space of a radio like TSF,” he added.
