According to the National Information System for Water Resources (SNIRH), the amount of stored water increased in December in 10 river basins and decreased in two compared to the last day of the previous month.
Stocks by river basin in December 2023 were generally above the December average (1990/91 to 2022/23), with the exception of the Lima, Cavado, Ribeiras-Costeiras, Douro, Ribeiros do Oeste and Tagus river basins.
At the end of December, the Barlavento basin still had the least amount of water at just 7.7%, while the average is 63.1%.
Of the 60 monitored reservoirs, in 16 water availability exceeded 80% of the total volume, and in another 16 it was below 40%.
According to SNIRH data available this Thursday, at the end of December Barlavento (7.7%), Arade (24.6%), Mira (30.8%) and Sado (40.5%).
The Cavado basin had the largest volume of water (90.1%), followed by the Douro (79.9%), Tagus (78.6%), Oeste (71.5%), Guadiana (70.5%), Lima (70.4%), Ave (67.3%) and Mondego (64%).
Each river basin may have more than one reservoir.
