Agriculture Minister Maria do Ceu Antunes has been awarded the Order of Merit of Agriculture in France for her “persistence and leadership” in completing the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC).
“Minister of Agriculture and Food Maria do Seu Antunes was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Merit for Agriculture this afternoon in France,” the government said in a statement.
Quoted in the same note, his French colleague Marc Fenot attributed this distinction to the “work, tenacity and leadership” that allowed the CAP reform to be completed in 2021 during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU. European Union.
“It was your leadership and tenacity, Maria do Ceu, that allowed the CAP to be finally approved when few believed it was possible. We are counting on you for the next CAP reform,” he stressed.
In turn, the Portuguese Minister of Agriculture emphasized that this is “a collective award attributed to the Portuguese team”, taking into account that the CAP reform was achieved thanks to “a very large group of people who are very dedicated to their work.”
Maria do Ceu Antunes was also proud of “being able to contribute a little more to the construction of the common project that is the European Union.”
This Thursday’s meeting with Minister Mark Fesno also discussed topics such as new genomic methods, animal transport, simplifying CAP and using water more efficiently.
“In line with European priorities, Portugal advocates the development of a program similar to Repower, but focused on water use. This was another opportunity for us to set priorities and define efforts. […]. Sustainable development must be a great and constant goal,” he said.
