The PSD National Council unanimously approved the coalition with the SDS-NP and the PPM

This Thursday, the PSD National Council unanimously approved a coalition with CDS-PP and PPM for the legislative and European elections, but the terms of the political agreement between the three parties will be discussed later.

At a meeting this Thursday in Braga, the National Council instructed PSD Secretary General Hugo Soares to negotiate the terms of the agreement.

It also approved the opening of these lists to include independent citizens of “recognized merit, belonging to various sectors of civil society and committed to the political project of the Democratic Alliance,” as the coalition itself calls itself.

At the opening of the National Council, PSD leader Luis Montenegro said the coalition would guarantee a parliamentary group of SDS-PP from the start with two “clearly eligible” seats in Lisbon and Porto.

The CDS-PP also ranks 10th on the Aveiro list and 11th on the Braga list, with a chance of being elected.

PPM, in turn, will take 19th place in Lisbon.

“Achieving this is not easy, but if everything goes as we expect in terms of growth margin, that is what we will fight for, as well as providing parliamentary representation to the NPM,” Montenegro added.

The SDS and SDS-PP announced on December 21 last year that they would compete together in legislative elections in March and European elections in June with an electoral coalition that reclaims the name Democratic Alliance (the name of the first coalitions concluded between the SDS and SDS-PP in the 80s) and which will include “independent individuals”.

On Wednesday it was announced that the PPM will also join this electoral coalition, already approved by the party organs.

This is the fourth time that the PSD and CDS-PP will vote together in legislative elections.

At the time of the announcement, in a joint statement, the SDP and SDS-PP indicated that they would value and welcome, among other things, the ideas of the “Manifesto of a Reformist and Moderate Alternative,” signed by “more than 100 prominent figures.” from Portuguese society” to support a possible new leader led by the Social Democrats and their president Luis Montenegro.

AD “offers to offer the Portuguese effective political and policy change,” promising “much more ambition for high levels of prosperity, economic and income growth, and opportunity for all Portuguese.”
