Carlos Cesar was re-elected as PS president with more than 90% of the votes.

Carlos César was re-elected president of the Socialist Party (PS) this Saturday with 90.36% of the votes. The vote took place at the Socialist Congress at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL).

“Party President Carlos Cesar was elected with 90.36%,” said COC President Pedro do Carmo at the opening of the second day of the 24th National Congress of the PS, which takes place at the International Fair of Lisbon (FIL).

The PS Presidential election took place between Friday afternoon, the first day of work, and this morning.

Carlos César, who headed the regional government of the Azores between 1996 and 2012 and was the parliamentary leader of the PS between 2015 and 2019, has been president of the PS since 2014.

Between Friday afternoon and this morning, delegates also elected the Bureau of the Congress with 96.21% of the vote, the Credentials Commission with 96.44% and the Honor Commission with 98.16%.

The 24th National Congress of the PS will elect the new national bodies of the party on Sunday, after direct elections on December 15 and 16, in which Pedro Nuno Santos was elected secretary general with 61% of the votes, against José Luis Carneiro, who had 37%, and Daniel Adrian. which had 1%.

This electoral process in the PS began with the resignation of António Costa as Prime Minister on November 7, after it became known that he was the subject of a judicial investigation launched by the Ministry of Justice in the Supreme Court. as a result of Operation Influencer.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, immediately accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister and two days later announced to the country the dissolution of parliament and the appointment of early legislative elections for March 10.
