PAN claims that Pedro Nuno chose to “be responsible” rather than represent the country’s vision.

A PAN spokesman said this Monday that the speech of the new PS general secretary Pedro Nuno Santos at the weekend congress was marked more by “presenting accounts” than by a vision for the country.

“Pedro Nuno Santos’s speech was more of a statement than a vision of the country, but PAN will be here to present its vision of the country, to present its vision of well-being and quality of life and even hope for the people,” said Ines de Souza Real.

In a conversation with Lusa, the only MP from the People-Animals-Nature party noted that “the mantra of leaving no one behind, especially in conditions of social vulnerability,” increases the need for “humanist rulers, rulers who are capable of a macro view as well as a medium- and long-term view, not just a short-term view.”

Ines de Souza Real noted that the new PS leader “touched some fundamental aspects” such as housing, TAP or oral health, but noted that Pedro Nuno Santos excluded “many other issues” from his speech.

“We can’t just talk about TAP and forget about rail, when it is important for PAN that there are connections to all county capitals and that there is no unnecessary investment, for example in projects such as the transition to the TGV. talk here about reusing and restoring existing lines,” he said.

The MP also expressed regret that “issues of the environment and animal protection were practically left out of the entire speech of Pedro Nuno Santos” at the 24th Congress of the PS.

Ines de Souza Real guaranteed that PAN will continue to champion these causes, as well as gender equality and equality for people with different sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQIA+) or even “colleagues for companies that have good social and environmental practices.”

The PAN spokesman also called on people to vote in the next legislative elections on March 10 so that the party can increase its representation in the Assembly of the Republic: “We are confident that with the help of the parliamentary group we will do much more to achieve the goals of what we represent and this is the call , which we leave to the Portuguese, is to give us more strength.”

A single MP criticized “empty debates” and “political contradictions” and complained that the PS and SDP do not represent “the idea and vision of reform for the country”, countering that the MHP is a “differentiating political force” and “good for democracy”.

Asked if she is ready to talk to Pedro Nuno Santos if the PS forms a government, Ines de Sousa Real replied that “do not buy a PAN to express your readiness.”

“The question that arises is what PS Pedro Nuno Santos is willing to do for the goals that PAN represents and how far he is willing to go to support and guarantee this dialogue,” he said.

Regarding a possible management agreement, Sousa Real refused to speculate, saying that “forecasts will only be made after March 10.”

Highlighting the situation of uncertainty in the media of the Global Media Group, Ines de Souza Real asked to “strengthen the so-called fourth estate and ensure the protection of journalists” as “the press has been going through very difficult times lately.”

The PAN representative also wanted to comment on the fact that last year Animalife received more than nine thousand requests for help from families in need with animals.

Ines de Souza Real took the opportunity to highlight some of the measures approved by the party, in particular the VAT exemption for the purchase of feed by animal welfare associations, as well as the tax exemption on proposed donations.
