Cell phone that fell from an Alaska Airlines plane survived a 5,000-meter drop

A cell phone that fell from the cabin of an Alaska Airlines plane during an incident in which a door and part of the fuselage fell off survived a fall from a height of 5,000 meters.

Seanathan Bates, who made the discovery next to a road near Portland, Oregon, reported on the social network X that he found an iPhone with a screen with some falls and working, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports.

In one of the images, you can see the screen working without issue, with the end of the charging cable torn off, and an email from Alaska Airlanes about a baggage receipt is received on the cell phone.

“Thank you for helping us,” Jennifer Homendy, the head of the North American agency responsible for transportation safety (NTSB), which is investigating the incident, emphasized in turn on the same social network.

Bates also said that when he called the NTSB, he was told that this was the second cell phone found, although the door was still not visible.

An Alaska Airlines plane made an emergency landing Friday night in Portland, in the northwestern United States, after a door and part of the fuselage fell off.

The incident caused a depressurization of the cabin with a suction effect that, according to passengers quoted in North American media, ripped off the teenager’s shirt and, at a minimum, the cell phone he was charging.

The crash, a new setback for the 737 MAX 9, has grounded some Boeing planes awaiting inspection by civil aviation authorities and sent the North American planemaker’s stock price plunging this Monday, facing another major blow. .
