Chega believes that it is necessary to guarantee the rights of employees and shareholders of Global Media

Chega President Andre Ventura this Wednesday defended the need to ensure the rights of Global Media Group (GMG) workers, as well as the company and shareholders.

“It is important that all rights are protected. Those workers who are currently going through a very difficult situation, the media group plays a fundamental role in democracy, and we also have the guarantee that whoever invests and who owns these groups can also feel that their rights are also recognized.” – he said.

Andre Ventura was speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic when he was asked about a 24-hour strike by GMG workers on the same day as the deadline for voluntary redundancy expires, to demonstrate the abandonment of the intention to fire up to 200 specialists and to defend journalism.

“This is how the democratic rule of law works, guaranteeing the rights of those who have invested and those who work, rather than always pitting one against the other, which is what the far left is trying to do at the moment,” he said.

President Chegi also said the party is considering a possible proposal to establish a commission of inquiry in the next legislature.

“We will not give up any instrument. It is important that parliament intervenes here, doing something to enhance transparency, we will definitely be on the side of these decisions,” he said.

Andre Ventura defended “maximum transparency” in this situation and considered it “important that the ERC [Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social] do the work to understand whether these rules are being followed or not and how they might not have been followed.”

“I hope that everything will be resolved, whether it is Global Media or any other group, and I hope that the rules of transparency will be applied,” he said.

The leader of Chegi refused the intervention of the state, which is part of the group, a measure that the left parties have already accepted, considering it a “bad path”.

“We must ensure that the media, which are major players in the democratic space, have rules of transparency and those rules are enforced, we must ensure that there is no politicization of the media” and that media workers “are paid.” conditions and dignity to be able to be,” he defended.

“We need independent, strong media whose professionals are well paid and can do their important work in the name of democracy,” he stressed.

Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias, TSF and O Jogo are on strike today and gathered in the Assembly of the Republic this morning.

On December 6, in an internal statement, GMG’s executive committee, led by José Paulo Fafe, announced that it would urgently negotiate layoffs with 150 to 200 workers and embark on a restructuring it said was necessary to avoid “more than what predictable bankruptcy of the group.”

The workers did not receive either the December salary or the Christmas bonus, which, according to the management, will be paid in the twelfth year during this year, which violates the law.

The group also announced it would cease providing services from January, giving only a few hours’ notice.
