PSP unions are waiting for a response from the MAI and will ask the party for meetings

The president of the National Union of Police (SNOP), Bruno Pereira, this Thursday suggested that the government would contact the PSP unions due to the protests and said that the parties would be asked for meetings.

Speaking to the media after a morning meeting with the national director of the PSP at the organization’s headquarters in Lisbon, Bruno Pereira said that José Barros Correia had not conveyed to the unions any instructions from the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) regarding the moment of protest in the security forces for better wages and conditions labor.

“This should not have been done by the national director, but rather by the home secretary, especially since he has direct contact with all of us. If he wants to do it, he can do it, and we hope that he can do it and do it soon,” said the SNOP president, assuring that the unions have not yet been called to a meeting.

However, Bruno Pereira expressed the desire of the unions to have “a broad discussion with representatives of all political parties who want to see this issue as a top priority,” stressing that safety is a topic “that cannot be neglected.”

“We will ask the parties for a meeting,” noted the trade union leader, who explained that a concerted discussion would need to be held with the government, with a platform bringing together several PSP trade unions and GNR socio-professional associations, to review wages. applications and that last week he announced the reduction of institutional relations with MAI.

The SNOP President also said that he was not aware of the meeting on Wednesday between the National Director of the PSP and the Commander General of the GNR and the Secretary of State for the Interior Administration, Isabelle Oneto, but stressed his conviction that Barros Correia “will do everything to protect the legitimate interests and rights of his police officers.”

For the fourth day in a row, PSP police officers returned this Thursday to concentrate in several cities across the country in protest, as part of an initiative that began with a PSP agent in front of the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon and mobilizes each other and more PSP members, as well as the GNR and prison guards .

The protest was also carried out with the stopping of several PSP patrol cars, mainly in the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis), claiming that the police are not working and have several faults.

The protest by elements of the PSP, together with the GNR military, began after the government on November 29 approved the payment of PJ’s career travel allowance, which in some cases could represent an increase of almost €700 per month.

Police protests are organized through social networks such as Facebook and Telegram.

The meeting with the national director of PSP was attended by the six most representative trade unions: the Association of Professional Police Unions (ASPP-PSP), the Professional Police Union (SPP), the National Police Union (Sinapol), the Independent Police Union (SIAP), the National Union of Police (SNOP) and National Union of PSP Career Leaders (SNCC).
