Malo de Abreu is removed from Chegi’s list and says they are ‘trying to confuse’ his exit

Former PSD deputy António Malo de Abreu this Thursday refused to receive any invitation to join the list of Chegi deputies and, when asked whether he would accept it, responded in the negative, saying that it was an “attempt to muddy” his departure.

The MP, who announced on Wednesday his resignation from the SDP and the Social Democratic bench and has now become unregistered, was asked today in parliament by journalists whether he would join the Chegi list in the next legislative elections. was neither confirmed nor denied by Andre Ventura today.

“No, no. They are trying to muddy my position by saying that I am going to change my shirt. I was not invited by Chega or any party,” he said.

When asked if he would accept a possible invitation from Andre Ventura’s party, he began by saying that “in principle, no” and that “at the moment” he was not available for “absolutely anything” and organized his life.

“I do not expect to return to parliament at all (…) As a matter of good manners, if I receive an invitation from anyone, I will answer directly and confidentially, but my principled position has nothing to do with any invitation. “, He said.

Further, when asked if the leader of Chegi uses his name, Malo de Abreu answered more clearly.

“What can I say except that it is a lie, that I have not received any invitation from Chegi and that if I do, I will answer as I told you,” he said.

When asked if he would answer “no,” he clarified: “Obviously, of course.”

“The SDP and the parties that did not like my decision are doing their job: pushing me into Chega’s arms, and Chega is doing their job: making it clear that they have the opportunity to contact me,” he believed.

In statements to journalists, former leader Rui Rio said he spoke to him only after the PSD decision, without revealing the content of the conversation, and expressed strong criticism of the current leadership, predicting a “bad result.” “in the elections on March 10 and expressed regret about the way the lists of parliamentary candidates are being formed.

“They are trying to deceive the electorate through a coalition to disguise the election results, a party that will use the existing mediocre structures and try to hide this mediocrity with two or three figures who can become a rose in the party’s lapel,” was criticized, confirming that he had referring to independent people such as the former president of the Order of Doctors, Miguel Guimarães.

Malo de Abreu considered that the current leadership has “a terrible strategy, follows an absolutely populist path and does not have a serious project for the country.”

“He’s playing with dichotomies. I don’t think he has a chance of winning this election, neither the SDP nor the AD,” he said, also accusing the coalition of “trying to erase the memory” of one of the original and former leader Democratic Alliance CDS Freitas do Amaral.

He told the media that the reason for his departure on the eve of the dissolution of parliament was a “coincidence of circumstances.”

“The big disagreement was the absolute disrespect of the leadership of the board for the deputies: not a single serious issue voted on in this Assembly was resolved through the board of the SDP,” he criticized.

Malo de Abreu expressed regret that the leadership of the college did not agree to schedule a debate on the situation of the Portuguese communities, which he said he had asked for several times, and recalled that the circle outside Europe, which he headed, was the only one in which The PSD won alone, with Augusto Santos Silva as its opponent from the PS.

“I could have made this decision a month or two ago, but I choose my political moments,” he emphasized.

The Board of the Assembly of the Republic announced at the beginning of the plenary session that Malo de Abreu had become an unregistered deputy, declaring that he should take – at the last plenary session of the XV Legislative Assembly – a place between the PS and the PSD benches.

On the Social Democratic bench, the group’s vice-president Miguel Santos will take over as chairman of the Health Commission during the time remaining before the new legislature, which will be formed as a result of early elections on March 10.
