“Enough to win the election”: Andre Ventura upon arrival at the National Party Convention

The 6th Chega Congress started this Friday in Viana do Castelo and will last throughout the weekend. The election of the party president is on the agenda of the Congress.

Upon arrival, party leader André Ventura declared that “Chega will come to win the elections” and that he would therefore want to participate in a “three-way fight: PS, PSD and Chega.” “I hope that these three days will be a moment of confirmation for Chegi. He finally assumes that he is a candidate to rule Portugal,” he assured.

“Chega must stop being the party that is the voice of protest, which it may remain, but it also has a responsibility in this congress, given what it is credited with in the opinion polls, to be the party of government and present solutions,” he said.

The leader of Chegi confirmed that the party’s goal is to win the legislative elections on March 10, and noted that the main opponents will be the PS and the SDP.

“This is obvious because they are the ones who are now in front of us. Therefore, if we want to govern, our opponents are the PS and the SDP,” he said, emphasizing that “Chega represents himself in these elections to govern” and present solutions, which he has for the future of the country.

The proceedings of the 6th National Convention of Chegi began at 20:32 to mark the opening of polling stations for the elections to the Council of this body, after which it immediately closed for the duration of this electoral event.

Under the main meeting’s motto “Clean Portugal”, Andre Ventura’s entrance into the still half-filled hall was marked by shouting of the name of the party’s leader and presidential candidate, with music playing in the background.

Pedro Pinto, Secretary General of Chega, assured that people on the streets are saying: “On March 10, count on us.”
