Two more earthquakes hit Terceira island

According to the Azores Center for Seismovolcanic Information and Observation (CIVISA), two earthquakes of magnitude 2.4 and 2.7 on the Richter scale were felt this Sunday afternoon on the island of Terceira in the Azores.

The tremors occurred at 16:46 local time (17:46 in Lisbon) and at 16:47 local time (17:47 in Lisbon), the CIVISA website reports.

The epicenter of the first magnitude 2.4 event (Richter) was approximately four kilometers east (E) of Serreta, and the epicenter of the second magnitude 2.7 event (Richter) was approximately one kilometer southeast (ESE) of Serreta. Serreta, Terceira Island, says CIVIZA.

“According to the information available today, the earthquakes were felt with maximum intensity IV (Modified Mercalli Scale) in the parishes of Serreta, Raminho, Altares, Doze Ribeiras and Santa Barbara (municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island),” it says message. statement.

Also, according to CIVISA, the shock “was still felt with intensity III/IV in the parishes of Altares (municipality of Angra do Heroísmo) and Biscoitos (municipality of Praia da Vitória).”

CIVISA states that “these events are part of the ongoing seismovolcanic crisis on the island of Terceira since June 2022.”

This morning another earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was felt on the islands of Terceira and Sao Jorge.
