Israeli football player arrested in Turkey for inciting hatred released

An Israeli player for the Antalyaspor football club in southern Turkey, who was detained on Sunday for publicly inciting hatred, was released this Monday, news agency DHA-Sports reports.

On Saturday, after scoring in Antalyaspor’s match against Trabzonspor, the Israeli international showed “100 days 07/10” on one of his wrists, signifying 100 days since the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas attacked Israel. This was followed by Israeli military intervention in the Gaza Strip, an enclave controlled by Hamas since 2007.

Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into Israeli football player Sagiv Yehezkel on suspicion of inciting hatred.

However, Antalyaspor announced that they had removed Sagiv Yehezkel from the team, accusing him of “actions contrary to the values” of the country.

On October 7, Hamas militants, in power in the Gaza Strip since 2007 and classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel, carried out an attack on Israeli territory on a scale unprecedented since the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, killing 1,139 people, most of them civilians, according to the latest report from Israeli authorities, and more than 200 hostages.

In response, Israel declared a war to “eradicate” Hamas, which began with cuts in food, water, electricity and fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip and daily bombings, followed by a ground offensive in the north of the territory, which meanwhile expanded to the south.

According to the latest report from local authorities, the war between Israel and Hamas has so far killed more than 23,000 people in the Gaza Strip and injured more than 59,000 people, most of them civilians, and displaced about 1.9 million people. at home (about 85 people). % of the population), according to the UN, plunging the overpopulated and impoverished Palestinian enclave into a serious humanitarian crisis.
