Pay increases for government employees will begin this Friday, with January awards also being processed using new IRS tax withholding tables, an official source at the Department of the President said.
Thanks to the update, the remuneration base for civil servants (minimum wage in the state) increases from 761.58 euros to 821.83 euros.
For workers with salaries up to 1,754.49 euros, the increase is 52.63 euros, and higher salaries are updated by 3%.
Wages begin to be paid on the 20th, but since it is a Saturday, payment for that month is postponed to the previous working day (this Friday).
The dates for the processing of civil servants’ salaries for 2024 are indicated in the notice of the IGCP – Agency for the Management of the Treasury and Public Debt, published on January 12 in the Diário da República.
According to the notification, the salaries of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers and the Ministries of Finance, National Defense, Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Culture and Foreign Affairs will be paid first, which will be paid until the 23rd day. .
As an official source in the presidential ministry told Lusa, the payment depends, however, “on each of the entities processing the rewards.”
Remuneration increments based on annual civil service salary updates or Unified Remuneration Table levels are updated by 3%.
The wage increase measures are the result of a multi-year agreement between the government and the UGT trade union structures – the Federation of Civil Service Unions (Fesap) and the State Technical Staff Union (STE).
According to the Ministry of Finance, the increase in civil servants’ salaries will cost 847 million euros and will cover approximately 740 thousand civil servants.
In addition to the salary update, there are also plans to increase the position of senior technical specialist.
