Pedro Nuno Santos assumed “all responsibilities regarding TAP”, in statements made this Friday during a visit to the engineering center in Matosinhos.
“I take full responsibility in relation to TAP (…) What is really important in terms of political responsibility is that I, as a minister, take political responsibility for everything that was done in TAP, and that what is really important,” said the socialist.
In 2021 upon entry Christina Ourmier-Widener said that at TAP she worked as an administrator for two companies: ZerAvia and the Met Office. In response to the news published this Friday by the agency Business magazinePedro Nuno Santos explained that “the contract was concluded with the legal teams of both parties” and referred to the position of Minister of Infrastructure at the time. “I’m not a lawyer or lawyer,” he stressed, so he doesn’t know “whether hoarding positions is illegal.”
The socialist pointed out the merits of the government’s decision to intervene in the company’s affairs “early”, given the “gross losses” the airline would suffer if it were to close. “The company that was bankrupt is now profitable,” he emphasized.
Information about other positions is available on Christina Ourmier-Widener’s LinkedIn page. In a lawsuit brought by the manager to challenge her dismissal, TAP’s defense accuses the manager of withholding information about O&W, a consulting company of which she is a founder and shareholder.
Despite journalists’ insistence on Christina Ourmier-Widener’s contract, the socialist said that TAP will be used throughout the campaign for the legislative elections on March 10, taking into account, however, that the most important thing is that the company has made losses and gone bankrupt recovered and made a profit.
TAP’s former executive president was sacked for cause in April 2023 following a controversial half-million-euro compensation to former administrator Alexandra Reis, which led to the dismissal of then infrastructure minister Pedro Nuno Santos and his secretary of state Hugo Mendes and the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the airline’s management.
