Chega will propose a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the fight against Covid-19

Chegi President André Ventura announced this Friday that the party will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the government’s handling of Covid-19, especially regarding the procurement of vaccines and tests.

For Andre Ventura, the problem could be “wasting millions of euros” during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As soon as the legislative session begins, we will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission to investigate the government’s activities during the Covid period. It is necessary to carefully study the acquisition of tests, the acquisition of vaccines, the acquisition of equipment,” he said.

On Thursday, the Court of Auditors (TdC) found that prices set by the government for Covid-19 diagnostic tests have led to an increase in public spending, estimated at €153.4 million between 2020 and 2021.

In a report published on its website, TdC concludes that the prices set by the Department of Health for diagnostic tests for the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, reimbursed by the National Health Service (SNS), “are not always on a technical basis, presented by the National Institute of Health Dutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA, IP).”

This “has undermined the transparency of relevant pricing processes and led to increased government costs,” the report concludes.

According to Andre Ventura, “This clearly shows how these people run the country, how these people spend millions when we then, two or three years later, know that in the end this money was misused.”

“We have already pointed the finger several times in parliament at the leadership during the Covid-19 period, be it the purchase of materials, vaccines, and now tests,” the Chegi leader also said.
