This Saturday, the director of Lusa lamented that the deal to buy the agency by the state had fallen through due to the refusal of the SDP, and said that increased funding would allow Lusa to offer the service – a decision that has been criticized by some newspaper directors.
“There was a misunderstanding of the regime, everything was ready and there was a retreat on the part of the PSD, I deeply regret this,” Luisa Meireles said in a panel discussion on press funding at the V Congress of Journalists, which takes place from Thursday to Sunday in Lisbon.
Lusa’s chief information officer explained that the deal meant Lusa’s services would be free, which she said would be important in saving journalism organizations money and allowing them to invest more in their own journalism.
