MAI wishes that the allowances required by PSP and GNR be part of the basic salary.

The Minister of the Interior, José Luis Carneiro, expressed this Saturday his desire that the increases declared by the PSP and GNR be included in the remuneration base, stressing, however, that he cannot act outside the budget.

Speaking at the end of the presentation of his book “Ganhar o Futuro” in Porto, which was attended by teachers and representatives of the police, José Luis Carneiro began by repeating the arguments regarding the complaints of those professionals who demand an equivalent compensation regime. who was transferred to the judicial police.

“This is a work that must be done and completed in the next legislature and the next government and which, from my point of view, must have two structural dimensions: a comparison of the functions and nature of the security forces and services, as well as the criminal police, as regards the basic structure rewards and then also make comparisons between the various additions to the security forces and the criminal police agencies,” he said.

The Minister then acknowledged the new scenario, saying that “it might even make sense that some of the allowances that are currently awarded could be included in the remuneration base,” stressing, incidentally, that in order for this work to develop there, it would be necessary to attract ministries responsible for public administration, finance, internal administration, national defence, justice and economics, as they include the Directorate of Food and Economic Security.

“These are structures that supervise the criminal police,” he explained, adding: “It is desirable, and this is my personal opinion, that there be allowances that could be integrated into the remuneration structure.”

José Luis Carneiro then resumed his speech about the limitations associated with the role of the governing government, and “such measures have very significant implications for the budget.”

“There can be no decisions outside the budgetary framework; the Minister of Internal Affairs does not have such powers,” he emphasized.

Members of the PSP and GNR have been protesting for more than a week for better working conditions and wages, demanding a mission allowance identical to that awarded to judicial police inspectors.

The national director of the PSP, José Barros Correia, and the general commander of the PNP, Rui Ribeiro Veloso, have already met with representative structures and expressed solidarity with the causes of the protests.

During the book signing in Porto, the minister was questioned by an independent group of teachers with whom he met at the end.

According to one of the group’s members, Carla Gomes, the goal is to “find a solution for education professionals” by proposing, before the early legislative elections scheduled for March 10, to “meet with all parties to obtain a commitment to solve the problems ” “
