Arthur Jorge’s place in charge of Braga should not depend on performance in the League Cup, especially in Tuesday’s semi-final against Sporting, especially given what Arsenal officials consider to be a lack of viable alternatives as far as immediate succession is concerned.
Braga’s season turned out to be below expectations, which even led to changes in the squad: Castro (Moreirense) and Andre Horta (Olympiacos) left without joining. Thanks to participation in the Champions League, Braga invested in strengthening the team by signing experienced players (Jose Fonte, Joao Moutinho or Rony Lopez) on high salaries.
However, the results were not as expected. Participation in the Champions League was worthy, but in the championship the Warriors are in 4th place, ten points behind the leader Sporting and nine points behind the 2nd place (Benfica), which gives them access to the qualifying rounds Champions League. In the Portuguese Cup, Braga were eliminated by Benfica, leaving the League Cup in reserve.
