Paulo Portas speaks at the Democratic Alliance meeting this Sunday in Estoril. The former deputy prime minister and former leader of the SDS is one of the honorary guests of the congress.
According to Paulo Portas, “Portugal must have a new government, it must be a government of change.” He adds that if AD doesn’t win, “we won’t get a repeat of PS, but a repeat of gerigonça.”
The elections, he said, “are not yet decided” because “there is still a lot of disinformation and manipulation.”
“There is a lot of hopelessness in Portuguese society and I just want to organize ideas to organize choices,” he says.
March 10 “AD must win by a landslide.” “The mission of the Democratic Alliance is to give guarantees to those who are afraid, to replace resentment with hope, to give opportunity, hope.”
If Pedro Nuno Santos wins, it will be “the most radical government since 1976,” says Paulo Portas. He adds that Pedro Nuno always says that “he does not see, does not know, does not remember, but he is always there and agrees, we know how the PS is always absolved of responsibility.”
“If he had not demonstrated his ability as a minister, what would he have done as prime minister? A politician who shows so much amnesia about his duties cannot be the best leader,” he says.
The former CDS-PP president says AD wants to build on three points: “Innovation, savings and demographics” and intends to bring clarity “between continuity and change”, hoping that voters will have “the right temptations”.
He reminds the Portuguese of Brexit, where “investment and export potential were lost”, urging them to “be careful” and saying that “complex problems cannot be solved in 140 characters”.
He concludes by saying that the Democratic Alliance is not a party of disorder, but a party of “reform and stability” and therefore there is a need to “put an end to this madness”.
