In a statement, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP said that a “36-year-old foreign suspect wanted by Spain on charges of sexual offenses” was arrested through the Massama police station of the Sintra Police Department this afternoon. for whom the Spanish judicial authorities have issued a European arrest warrant.
After receiving a complaint of “acts of sexual harassment” near a school in the Belas district “by a suspect who was allegedly roaming around there to lure minors,” police began “preventive measures” to confirm the suspicions and prevent the continuation of these suspicions. is in effect, the statement said.
According to the note, as a result of the investigation, PSP agents were able to identify the suspect, confirming that “he is wanted in Spain for committing crimes of this nature,” and were able to intercept him on Monday afternoon in the Belas area.
The PSP reported the arrest to the prosecutor’s office at the Lisbon Court of Appeal, the body with jurisdiction to extradite the suspect to Spain.
In the note, the PSP concluded that it will continue to “pay the greatest attention and act most effectively” to this type of priority phenomena, “pursuing those responsible and providing an enhanced sense of security, especially in vulnerable areas such as children.”
