Rui Rocha called on PSD President Luis Montenegro to “say whether he still has political confidence in Miguel Albuquerque.” The president of the regional government of Madeira is suspected of corruption, economic involvement in business and malfeasance, as well as possible violation of community rules in the field of public procurement.
“Miguel Albuquerque must give people an immediate explanation in the next few hours and minutes and tell them whether he is able to continue,” says the president of the Liberal Initiative. According to him, these political conditions “will worsen until explanations are given.”
With PAN supporting the regional government of Madeira, Rui Rocha also called on the party to “express its position” regarding the ongoing investigation and its political implications.
In this Wednesday The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Unit of the Judicial Police are conducting a major judicial operation in Madeira and on the mainland.
Asked about the moment of political uncertainty in which the operation is being carried out, Rui Rocha said he wanted to “believe that there is no connection between the timing of the investigations and the election campaigns.”
