Public consultation on the preliminary report of the independent commission responsible for the new airport closes this Friday.

The public consultation period on the preliminary report of the independent technical committee (CTI) responsible for the strategic environmental assessment of the new airport, which identified Alcochete and Vendas Novas as two viable options, ends this Friday.

The deadline for interested parties to submit applications to CTI was originally scheduled to last until January 19, but was extended by a further five working days to this Friday due to the Christmas holidays and the end of the year.

After receiving input from the public consultation, CTI will produce a final report, including input on “feasibility,” “merit,” “opportunity and technical relevance.”

CTI, responsible for the strategic environmental assessment of increasing airport capacity in the Lisbon region, presented on December 5 a preliminary report that will form the basis for the government’s decision on the new airport.

Of the nine options being studied, the Commission considered that Alcochete had the greatest advantage: in the first stage it would use a dual model with Humberto Delgado Airport, and then move to a single infrastructure on the south bank of the Tagus River.

The Vendas Novas option was also considered viable under the same scheme, i.e. first a dual model and then a single airport.

ANA — Aeroportos and the consortium responsible for the Santarém airport project have announced that they will participate in public consultations.

In the latter case, the promoters believe that their project was not properly assessed by CTI, and the team led by Rosario Partidario did not follow European Union recommendations regarding airport zones of influence, with the analysis favoring Alcochete and Vendas. Novas.
