Extending the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy to 14 weeks and allocating 1% of gross domestic product to culture are some of the measures included in the Livre’s preliminary program.
These proposals, discussed this Saturday afternoon by the party’s two leaders, are part of the first version of its program for the March legislative elections, which is being discussed and will be voted on at the XIII Congress of the Free, which ends on Sunday, in Porto.
The head of the Livre list in the Porto constituency, Jorge Pinto, took the podium and said that the party wants to allocate 1% of gross domestic product (GDP) to culture, admitting that this is an ambitious proposal.
However, he said, this percentage is “still below the European average.”
Jorge Pinto also left a promise if he is elected as a deputy in March.
“It is no secret, from the first congress we have committed ourselves to a clear and honest defense of regionalization, and this will be, and this is my commitment and my promise, my highest priority, if it reaches the Assembly of the Republic,” he assured. .
From Porto’s number one perspective, Portugal should organize a “large citizens’ meeting” on the topic, “so that it can discuss the desired regions and skills in a calm and informed manner, culminating in a referendum.
The “number two” from Lisbon and municipal deputy of the capital, Isabel Méndez López, addressed one of the proposals included in the preliminary electoral program, which defends the extension of the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG) to 14 weeks, emphasizing that sometimes, at the current period of 10 weeks, “a person does not even suspect that he may be pregnant.”
The leader also introduced a proposal to change the program she and another party member presented on the topic of conscientious objection that health workers can request.
According to the municipal deputy, “the defense of conscientious objection cannot mean a denial of the right to IVG enshrined in law,” arguing that if this happens, “then resources must be mobilized so that this can be done in the territory.”
“And then we need to rethink, redefine what it means to be a conscientious objector. Because there are several activities that are part of the IVG process, such as ultrasound and other things, but which in themselves are not IVG. consciousness must be removed from the entire process? We need to think about this,” he suggested.
In this context, the leader proposes in the proposed amendment, which will be voted on on Sunday, to guarantee the right to military service “by considering and systematizing the scope and discretion of conscientious objection applications.”
