Reports show that the twins obtained citizenship for the sole purpose of coming for treatment. In an email to father Nuno Rebelo de Souza writes: “We were 100% focused on helping the twins obtain the Portuguese citizenship cards they already have. (…) Now we need more help so that they can receive the only treatment in the world that can save them. Can dad help? In 2019, the twins were treated at the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon.
