Prison guards will go on strike from February 13 to 25, according to a notice issued this Monday by the National Union of Prison Guards, which could jeopardize the transport of prisoners to the courts.
According to the preliminary notice of the strike, which will take place from 00:00 on February 13 to 23:59 on February 25, the purpose of the strike is to “increase the value and dignity of professionals”, “restructure salary allowances” and “approval of a system for assessing the performance of prison guards, which has already been completed.”
The advance notice sent to the government, regional governments, the Directorate General of Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) and the country’s prison directors “declares a strike in the supervision service” for the specified period.
On January 25, the same day the union staged a sit-in in front of the Monsanto maximum security prison in Lisbon, the union met with the watchdog, receiving from the government a promise to approve an assessment and performance system by March, but no commitment to pay travel allowances.
The union leader said they had received a promise to “try to approve” the appraisal and performance system, but that in relation to travel allowances equivalent to those approved for the Judicial Police, the answer was that there was nothing the Government could do under the current leadership. situation, leaving a file to the government arising from the law of March 10.
With the same demands as the February strike announced this Monday, the union continues the 24-hour nationwide strike planned for January 31, holding a vigil on the same day, from 14:00, near the Kustojas prison in the Harbor.
