PSD demands resignation of Viana do Castelo councilor after joining Chegi list

The PSD Council of Viana do Castelo this Monday demanded that Eduardo Teixeira immediately resign from his position as a councilor in the local chamber, since he heads Chegi’s list as an independent candidate in the early legislative elections of March 10.

Eduardo Teixeira was elected as a councilor of the Viana do Castelo chamber in the 2021 legislative elections for the PSD/CDU-PP coalition.

In a statement sent to the editorial office, the Social Democratic Council, led by Orlando Antunes, said that “the fact that Eduardo Teixeira heads the list of parliamentary candidates from another party is nothing more than opportunism and a clear attempt at political survival.”

Eduardo Teixeira informed Lusa this Monday that he has ceased his active work to lead the list of Chega as an independent candidate in the early legislative elections of this district on March 10, but he refused to specify whether he will continue to serve as councilor in Viana. make the Castelo Chamber.

“Once the integration of Eduardo Teixeira into the lists of another party is confirmed, it will no longer be viable for the PSD, and the people of Viana will not understand that he continues to hold the position of councillor,” emphasizes the PSD council.

The PSD council states that Eduardo Teixeira is no longer a member of the PSD as of last Thursday and regrets that a man who has been a member of the PSD for 32 years and held various positions, including president of the council, does not know the party’s statutes regarding the duties of militants, or that gives the most convenient interpretation of them depending on the situation in which they find themselves.”

Last Thursday, the PSD district president demanded that Eduardo Teixeira resign as councilor of the Viana do Castelo chamber and leave the party after Andre Ventura announced him as Chega’s candidate for the legislature.

“Eduardo Teixeira should immediately resign as councilor of the Viana do Castelo chamber so that another party member can take his place on the council. He must also submit an application to leave the PSD,” said Olegário Gonçalves.

Until now, Eduardo Teixeira shared the PSD bench with Paulo Vale in the Viana do Castelo chamber, a seat he already occupied during the municipal mandate from 2013 to 2017.

Also on Thursday, the PSD council of Viana do Castelo announced the immediate termination of political confidence in Eduard Teixeira for disrespecting this political structure and tarnishing the name of the party.

Between 2013 and 2017, Eduardo Teixeira, an economist, was a PSD deputy for the Viana do Castelo circle.

An activist for about 30 years, Eduardo Teixeira led both the party council and district councils for several years, and also served on national bodies.

In 2013 and 2021, he ran for the PSD as head of the list for the presidency of the Viana do Castelo chamber and lost both times to the socialist José Maria Costa, the current Secretary of State for the Sea.
