Luis Montenegro intends to re-apply for the post of leader of the PSD, even if he loses

The PSD president said on Tuesday that he “remains committed” to re-apply for the PSD leadership position even if he loses the legislative elections, and ruled out that the AD could make a PS minority government viable.

In an interview with CNN, Luis Montenegro said he intends to serve out his term as leader of the PSD, which ends in July, and when asked whether he intends to run again even if he does not win the legislative elections (as he has previously said, when they were just labeled as European) answered in the affirmative.

“I support that intention,” he said, later adding that he expected “results consistent” with those intentions.

When asked whether he would allow the possible creation of a PS minority government as a result of legislative elections on March 10, Montenegro responded in the negative.

“I don’t see any way for AD (Democratic Alliance, which includes PSD, SDS-PP and PPM) MPs to make running the PS viable, it’s the opposite of what we advocate,” he said, without however specifying whether he will take the initiative to submit a proposal to reject the program of the leader led by Pedro Nuno Santos.

In the interview, Montenegro stressed that he had already formulated his goals: “I will rule if I win the elections, and I will rule on the basis of political support that will not integrate Chega,” but admitted that “the PSD is much bigger” than him.

“I’m not tempted to make myself more than SDP, I don’t believe in superheroes,” he said.

If Montenegro fails to achieve this majority in elections or form one through parliamentary agreements with parties such as IL, Montenegro said it “can run a minority government, as has already happened.”

Faced with Andre Ventura’s phrase that he would have a “guarantee” that in the event of a right-wing majority, the PSD would form a government with Chega, Montenegro found this “very strange” and reduced this possibility “to zero” with the help of himself in the leadership.

“I took over the leadership of the SDP, and our leadership has already determined the conditions under which we will exercise control. Andre Ventura will make decisions that he understands and will be responsible for them,” he said.
