Have you been asked to install an application on your mobile phone? Banco de Portugal warns about fraudulent phone calls

This Monday, Banco de Portugal issued a warning about telephone calls made by persons pretending to be its employees, using a system imitating the BdP telephone number, and in which they invited the targeted persons to install a fraudulent application.

In a warning statement issued this Monday, the BJP said that in the cases that have come to its attention, recipients of these calls are being told “that their bank accounts have been ‘phished’ and that to protect them they must install an app on your mobile devices.”

“These contacts are made from a telephone number that imitates (“spoofs”) the general telephone number of Banco de Portugal (213 130 000),” the same statement emphasizes, warning that this is a misuse of the name and image of the bank.

Banco de Portugal reminds us that it “does not provide commercial banking services to individuals or companies” and advises people not to send money, provide personal details, banking information (such as access codes) or credit card information, or install any type of application on mobile phones or personal computers “at the request of anyone who claims to represent Banco de Portugal or claims to have a banking relationship with it.”

Anyone who receives a call on their mobile phone purporting to be a BDP number should report the case to the authorities and contact Banco de Portugal, which can be done by emailing [email protected] or by dialing 213 130 000.
