The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) detained two people for profiteering in selling tickets to Coldplay concerts in Coimbra, police said in May.
“The sale of the aforementioned tickets was promoted on social media by the two detainees at prices far in excess of their actual face value. As a result of this action, three tickets were withdrawn. Two of them had a face value of 120.00 euros and were sold for 320.00 euros. The third had a nominal value of 65.00 euros and was sold for 120.00 euros.
In two cases, a criminal case was initiated, and in one of them the court “ordered a temporary suspension of one of the proceedings for four months with the condition [de o] the defendant shall pay as an injunction the sum of EUR 200.00″.
In the case of the other respondent, the matter moved to the investigation stage, and the ASAE communiqué did not substantiate the difference between the two.
In September, ASAE already reported the arrest of two people for the same crime, one of whom was given a six-month suspended prison sentence.
The ASAE is warning, as it did in September, “consumers not to purchase tickets above their official value as such sale constitutes a speculative offense punishable by six months to three years in prison.”
Coldplay announced four shows in May 2023 in Coimbra, with the ticket race representing the highest demand for an event in Portugal, the president of the Ticketline platform told Lusa at the time.
