Today’s meeting with the government will determine the course of the protest on the A25.

Farmers protesting on the A25 motorway in Alto de Leomil, municipality of Almeida, are awaiting the results of a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, which will take place this Thursday via video conference, to decide which direction to take in the blockade that began early in the morning. morning.

Around 5:30 p.m., the representative of the Civil Farmers’ Movement, Paulo Tome, told farmers that proposals had already been submitted and that they were awaiting the results of a meeting with Agriculture Minister Maria do Seu Antunes. “to see if there is any news.”

The meeting will take place in Idanha a Nova, Castelo Branco district.

The spokesman explained to protesters that the most urgent proposals involve immediate payment of some amounts owed, some of which remain until January 25 and others related to pastures.

The movement also calls for “active participation in negotiations for a new community support system.”

“These are measures approved in Lisbon that are adapted to the Guarda area and not adapted to Castelo Branco. We want to adapt the structure of the community,” emphasized Paulo Thome.

The spokesman said that the Beiras region was exemplary in the protest that took place this Thursday at the national level and stressed that “there were no problems or disrespect and there is no need for the PNP to intervene.”

Farmers concentrate in protest near Alto de Leomil, blocking traffic on the A25 motorway from 6:15 am between the Pinzio intersection in the municipality of Pingel and Vilar Formoso in the municipality of Almeida.

The protest, an initiative of the Civic Farmers’ Movement, comes a day after the government announced a package worth more than 400 million euros aimed at mitigating the effects of drought and strengthening the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC). The package covers, among other things, production worth EUR 200 million, covering production losses and creating a credit line of EUR 50 million with a zero interest rate.
